Kurz vor dem Brexit wurden Rebecca Biscuit und Louise Mothersole, besser bekannt als Sh!t Theatre, nach Valletta auf Malta in die Kulturhauptstadt Europas eingeladen. Der Plan: im Pub The Pub mit britischen Expats zu sprechen – im Tausch gegen Rum.
Was als rasante und unterhaltsame Revue aus Geschichten, Liedern und Videoeinspielern beginnt, bekommt nach und nach immer dunklere Schattierungen. Denn die „kleine Insel im großen Meer“ ist nicht nur Anlaufpunkt für Briten, die es sich leisten können, sondern liegt auch auf der Route vieler Geflüchteter. Und dann ist da noch die Investigativjournalistin Daphne Caruana Galizia, die 2017 bei einem Bombenattentat starb.
Eine ausgelassen-krawallige Show über Immigration und Heimat, mit viel Rum, Crowd-Surfing, Seemannsliedern und einem Hund. Wie ein Kneipengespräch über Themen, die für’s Kneipengespräch zu ernst sind. Oder nicht?

Just before Brexit, Rebecca Biscuit and Louise Mothersole, better known as Sh!t Theatre, were invited to Valletta, the capital of Malta that had been named the European Capital of Culture for 2018. The plan: to talk to British expats at The Pub, a local expat pub, and drink rum.
What starts as a fast-paced, entertaining revue of stories, songs and video clips gradually takes on darker shades. Malta, the „little island in the big sea“, is not only a port of call for Britons who can afford to live there, but is also a major stop along the route for many refugees. In addition to the refugee issue, there is also the death of Daphne Caruana Galizia, an investigative Maltese journalist, who was killed in a bombing in 2017.
A rollicking, riotous show about immigration and home, with lots of rum, crowd-surfing, sea shanties and one dog. Just like a chat in the pub about things that are too serious for a chat in the pub. Or maybe not?
